Mayfield Educator Principles

As Mayfield educators, we provide a Holy Child education rooted in joyful learning. What follows serves as the framework that describes how we strive to teach, lead, and grow as Holy Child educators. It names both the Principles that guide our work and informs the individual Actions that bring those principles to life in daily practice. These principles represent the Goals for Schools of the Holy Child Jesus in action.

All four Principles are equally important and together reflect the full scope of effective teaching at Mayfield.

Each year, Mayfield educators will use this framework to guide their professional growth by selecting one Principle and one corresponding Action as an area of focus. In addition to individual growth goals, the faculty will engage in one shared collective responsibility goal each year in support of our shared mission and community.

The framework also serves as part of the hiring process as our school seeks educators who will thrive in and contribute to the Mayfield community.

As a Mayfield Educator, I foster meaningful relationships with students and their families.

I strive to

  • Nurture each student and their interests, experiences, gifts, and strengths in and out of the classroom.
  • Proactively communicate with students and families with kindness, clarity, and respect.
  • Model the Holy Child Goals in daily interactions with students and families.

As a Mayfield Educator, I affirm the uniqueness of each child.

I strive to

  • Design and implement equitable and culturally responsive systems, norms, and policies.
  • Ensure all students participate and share their thinking.
  • Implement instructional strategies that support and challenge each student.

As a Mayfield Educator, I create joyful, intellectually challenging learning experiences.

I strive to

  • Plan with mastery in mind, using measurable objectives, scaffolding, and ongoing feedback and reflection.
  • Explicitly teach students life skills like executive functioning, digital citizenship, and social-emotional skills.
  • Design inquiry-driven, problem-solving lessons and activities.
  • Embed opportunities for students to apply Catholic social teachings to their learning.
  • Celebrate the learning process.

As a Mayfield Educator, I work in a community of educators who collectively support our Holy Child identity.

I strive to

  • Take collective responsibility for the growth and well-being of our students.
  • Participate in the faith life, culture, events, and traditions of the school.
  • Communicate and collaborate collegially with kindness, clarity, and respect.
  • Draw upon expertise within the community.
