The Visual Arts Program at Mayfield inspires creative expression, develops skills, and provides connection with multi-subject arts integration. Every student is an artist.

In the Lower School, students gradually build on a deep understanding of color, form and perspective through painting, pastel, collage and mixed media. An emphasis is placed on experimenting with media, learning technique and studying the styles of famous artists.

Middle School students continue to build skill and perspective. Each project emphasizes problem-solving, craftsmanship, and personal expression, preparing students to think like artists who refine their work through creativity and persistence. By seventh and eighth grade, students pursue art projects that involve complex processes and that touch on ideas such as civic awareness and cultural identity with growing maturity and creative independence.

Student Art Show

Each May, during Arts Week, the Hayden Performing Arts Center is transformed into a glorious gallery of student skill and talent for the annual Student Art Show. Displays extend from wall to wall featuring creative ceramics, landscape paintings, masks, paper mâche sculptures and more. From the traditional to the highly imaginative every piece truly showcases the creative expression encouraged daily and the hard work and talent of each student.
